About Good Earth Potato
The Good Earth Potato story began several years ago when I realized that if I was going to eat fast food, there were very few healthy choices. Deli sandwiches are full of sodium and preservatives and burgers and fries are pure junk food. I knew I wanted to stay away from unhealthy carbohydrates like pasta and bread. It seemed to me that with Americans spending over 100 billion dollars each year on fast food, there should be more high quality, nutritious food choices…the kind we eat at home.
International Year of the Potato While doing research for school on poverty and humanity, I went to the United Nations’ website. I discovered that the United Nations was declaring 2008 “The International Year of the Potato”, to increase awareness that the potato should be used as a method for fighting hunger and poverty around the world. The UN is encouraging countries around the world to use potatoes as a highly nutritious and inexpensive food in the fight against hunger. It says:
"The potato should be a major component in strategies aimed at providing nutritious food for the poor and hungry."

After doing more and more research on potatoes I realized that this is the food choice I have been looking for. Packed into this small, natural, earth-given food are Vitamins C, B1, B3 and B6, along with the micro-nutrients potassium, magnesium, folate, and riboflavin. Potatoes are delicious, nutritious, and satisfying.
Get to know the potato in a new way…enjoy your meal!
